Liz McClarnon is a much loved English Rose known for her infectious smile and for being one third of British chart-topping girl group Atomic Kitten.
As part of the Liverpudlian girl group which formed in 1998, Liz has accumulated countless awards and a multitude of chart topping hits including, 15 top 10 singles, 3 number 1’s and sold over 10 million records worldwide, many of which she co wrote. Atomic Kitten’s no1 Hit “Whole Again” spent 4 weeks in the UK charts as well as topping the charts in 17 countries! Having always remained humble to her success Liz recalls:
It’s one thing to hear your own music playing in your own country, but to then go on holiday or anywhere abroad and hear people talking about you in different languages, in places you never knew about, is crazy!
A powerful and emotional vocalist solo success was soon to follow in the shape of a top 5 hit with the Barbara Streisand classic ‘Woman in Love’! This was produced for her by the one and only Bee Gee, Robin Gibb who had penned the track back in 1979 and was a big fan of Liz’s vocals.
To add to her escalades Liz is a regular both on TV and radio with stints on shows such as the Wright Stuff & The Alan Tichmarsh show. Her friendly sincere voice can be heard waking up the nation when she co hosts Heart North West Breakfast show.
Liz has also had huge success fronting her own TV shows. ‘Hotter than my Daughter’ which debuted on BBC3, surpassed everyone’s expectations, gaining viewers each week and in total the show ran for three consecutive series!
Her skills do not stop there and in 2008 she swapped her microphone for apron, when she entered and won ‘Celebrity Masterchef’. This might of seemed like a huge departure for Liz, but being an enthusiastic foodie she said:
What’ve I got to lose? I’ve never tried to cook and hey, maybe I’ll learn something!
and that she did!
Five million people regularly saw Liz take on every challenge put in front of her and come out on top, with a natural culinary ability that has blossomed since the show.
Liz has also used her skills and notoriety to help those less fortunate and so when offered the opportunity to help the United Nations food program she readily accepted. In 2009 she was the first celebrity to design her own Tuscan pasta dish, which appears on the menu at Pizza Hut with a percentage of the profits going towards the cause.
She is an active ambassador for both Cancer Research UK and Help The Aged.
Since winning Masterchef Liz has trained further advancing her skills at the renowned Ashburton Cookery School and has not only appeared on many prime time shows such as, This Morning, Ready Steady Cook, Market Kitchen and cook Christmas Dinner for the BBC Breakfast presenters, but also had her own cookery show, LK today where she cooked some of her favourite dishes as well as those created on Masterchef.
A bottomless pit of talent, Liz’s credits include starring in Jeff Wayne’s 25th Anniversary touring production of War of The Worlds opposite Jason Donovan. This saw her play to hundreds of thousands of people across Europe visiting Holland, Germany, Dublin, Belgium as well as a full UK tour which stopped at London’s 02 arena.
In complete contrast to the role above and such is her brilliant comedic timing that Liz was also cast and received raving reviews for playing Paulette in the touring production of “Legally Blonde“.
This year will see Liz return to the stage and starring in the hit musical SHOUT! Presented by Peter Frosdick, SHOUT! flips through the years like a musical magazine and takes you back to the music, fashion and freedom of the 60’s with hits from the likes of Petula Clark, Lulu and Dusty Springfield.
I’m really looking forward to spending more time in Blackpool and playing such a fun/cheeky character. The songs are such ‘feel good’ tunes and I’m really excited to be at such an iconic venue as the Winter Gardens! If anyone wants to find me on my days off, I’ll be at my childhood haunt, the Pleasure Beach. Ha!
